The basic goal of the college is to extend help to the students to acquire higher quality education in greater Mariani region and its surrounding areas. The premier institute of Mariani tries to impart higher education to the youngsters coming out from the greater Mariani and its surrounding areas and to provide quality education to the backward and downtrodden students. To popularize science education with a view to initiate scientific thinking among the people of the area and to provide professional courses to make the mediocre students to be self-dependent. Also to inculcate moral and social values among the students community to promote nationalism and commitment to the society.

It was in the year 1966, Mariani College was established by the sincerest initiatives of a good number of local intellectual and academician of greater Mariani region. It was a humble effort for imparting higher education in a large locality, flanked mostly by Tea Gardens and villages. Establishment of Mariani College was very vital and important addition in the academic scenario of higher education at Mariani. The Mariani College was brought under deficit scheme in the year 1975. The college took a giant step with a group of local enthusiastic people to introduce Science Stream in 1993. Now the college enjoys the distinction of having three full-fledged streams namely Arts, Commerce and Science with major in various subjects. The college has two campuses (Old and New). At present, Mariani College is a fully provincialised and affiliated to Dibrugarh University.

Allumni of this college are spread over different parts of the country as well as abroad wit commendable position. During the last visit by the NAAC peer team, the college was awarded B+ Grade accreditation. For the last 50 years since it inception the college is imparting quality education with the help of experienced and qualified teachers. The total intake capacity of the college is about 2000 students including H.S. and UG courses.
